Animasia Studio and Spaceboy Studio Drive Malaysia's Creative Industry onto the Global Stage

Promotional poster with a bright pink gradient background featuring the logos of MDEC, the Malaysian coat of arms, and Malaysia Digital under the Ministry of Digital. In the center, a circular frame shows a group of cartoon characters in a spooky alley scene, reacting in shock and fear. Large white text across the circle reads “Malaysia’s Digital Creative Industry.” At the bottom are additional logos: MDEC 30, Malaysia MADANI, and Visit Malaysia 2026 Truly Asia.
Kisah Bawah Tanah will be streaming on Astro and Boom in early 2026.

Malaysia’s digital creative industry is no longer a quiet contender. With RM92.5 billion in revenue, RM12.1 billion in exports, over 11,000 high-value jobs created and RM85.7 billion in investments secured, the sector is demonstrating real strength on the global stage.

At Animasia Studio, we have witnessed this transformation firsthand through Kisah Bawah Tanah, in collaboration with Spaceboy Studio. What began as a Digital Content Grant initiative has grown into a regional success story, reaching audiences across ASEAN through broadcast partnerships and now expanding into a feature film currently in development.

This collaboration reflects a broader industry shift. Malaysian intellectual property is no longer confined to local screens. It is traveling, scaling and competing internationally through strong studio partnerships and shared creative vision.

The momentum is real. The ecosystem is maturing. The ambition is clear.

Malaysia’s creative industry is building stories that resonate beyond borders, driven by local talent and strengthened through collaboration.

Local roots. Regional impact. Global potential. 🚀
