Animation industry experts from all over the world converged in Cyberjaya for the Kre8tif! Conference and Content Festival 2017, held for the sixth year running.
Organised by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) at the Cyberview Resort and Spa, Cyberjaya, the event saw the participation of over 500 industry players from Malaysia, South Korea, India, China, Japan, Singapore and the Philippines.
This year, the conference was themed “Emotion in Motion”, reflecting on the passion of the animation industry in bringing their vision to life, while continuously perfecting the art-form. Among the notable speakers present include Dan Sarto from Animation World Network, Shazia Makhdumi from Google Play, and our very own animation veteran, Hassan Muthalib, who shared valuable insights about the ins and outs of the fast-growing industry.
Hassan is considered the father of Malaysian animation and is behind such classics like Sang Kancil and Silat Legenda.
“The animation and creative content industry has enormous potential, and it has become one of the main contributors to the national income over recent years. MDEC is already working towards building a healthy and vibrant digital economy as it continuously pushes boundaries to spur market growth,” said MDEC CEO Datuk Yasmin Mahmood.
“Kre8tif! is the perfect avenue for us to provide the needed support for the industry needs and we are confident it will open more doors for Malaysia’s animation and creative content industry to flourish.” The event also saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Animasia Studio and education solution provider Sasbadi Holdings.
Under the MoU, Sasbadi will secure the exclusive worldwide publication rights to publish Animasia’s Chuck Chicken animation series in the form of augmented reality (AR) books and comics. “We see AR as a step forward for the animation and print industries to bridge the gap between still pages and animated or CGI visuals, bringing a whole new level of experience to the consumer market,” said Yasmin.
Visitors were also treated to an outdoor movie screenings and meet and greet sessions with the mascots of popular local animation series such as Didi & Friends, Boboiboy and Ejen Ali.
